Nice links... and I think the cover of BORN TO RUN is iconic too. The way he is looking at Clarence while Clarence plays, he communicated that whites have "looked to" blacks, in rock music anyway. It's such a great photo.
There was a point in the late '70s, early '80s when Clarence Clemons was the entire black presence in rock. (Not counting "influences.")
